Vasaregionens Idrottsakademi är ett tvåspråkigt samarbetsnätverk och tjänstekoncept för elitidrottare i Vasaregionen. Idrottsakademin möjliggör en kombination av studier och elitidrott.

Idrottsakademin är riktad till toppidrottare. 

Kriterier för medlemsskap:

- Studieplats vid någon av Vasaregionens Idrottsakademis samarbetsskolor. Vuxna toppidrottare som inte studerar kan också söka och bli invalda i idrottsakademin.
- Idrottaren tränar målmedvetet och systematiskt och siktar mot nationella eller internationella toppen i sin gren.
- Idrottaren hör till nationella toppen eller är på internationell nivå i egen åldersklass eller idrottsakademins medlemsskap motiveras på annat sätt, t ex genom spel i något av VRIAs lagidrotters representationslag. Grenspecifika kriterier och antagning i samarbete med grenförbunden och föreningarna.
- Idrottsakademins verksamhet bidrar med ett mervärde för idrottarens satsning mot nationell eller internationell toppnivå.
- Idrottaren och det nationella grenförbundet följer FCEI:s regelverk.

Idrottarna väljs till Idrottsakademin tillsvidare och kan uteslutas om idrottarkriterierna inte längre uppfylls.

Information about Vasa Region Sports Academy in english

The Vaasa Region Sports Academy is one of Finland’s 19 official sports academies. The Finnish Olympic Committee coordinates the academy network, whose main function is to promote athletes' opportunities to combine sports and studies.The Vaasa Region Sports Academy is a regional cooperation network and service entity for aspiring elite athletes, elite athletes and local sports clubs. VSUA enables the simultaneous pursuit of studies and high-level sports at the lower secondary level (grades 7–9), upper secondary level, and tertiary level.

Other tasks include enhancing daily training and providing and developing support services for athletes and coaches.The Sports Academy offers athletes various support services based on their classification/level. The support services are partially free of charge or subsidised by the Sports Academy.

Dualcareer in lower secondary school (grades 7-9)

Urheiluyläkoulut:
Korsholms högstadium, Onkilahden yhtenäiskoulu and Laihian yhtenäiskoulu. Finnish sport specific lower secondary schools combine regular education with more athletic training and more movement in the schoolday, allowing talented young athletes to develop both academically and in sports

Dualcareer in upper secondary level

Vörå idrottsgymnasium
- One of 15 official sportspecific upper secondary level highschools in Finland. Vörå offers student-athletes a learning environment that combines upper secondary education and elite-level sport-specific training with a professional coaching staff. Sports: cross-country skiing, biathlon, track and field, orienteering, football/ soccer.

- Vamia is a vocational education and training institution in Vaasa, offering practical, career-oriented studies in close cooperation with working life. Vamia is an official sportspecific vocational education school in Finland where you can combine sports and studies

Vaasan Urheilpainotus
- In Vaasan urheilupainotus you can combine sport-specific training and studies as part of the school day. Events: football/ soccer, icehockey, swimming, volleyball, wrestling and "other" group. To Vaasan urheilupainotus belongs Vaasan lyseon lukio, Vasa gymnasium and Vamia.

Dualcareer in tertiary levely / higher education

At the moment there is approximately 80 VSUA student-athletes at the tertiary level from Novia, Vaasan Yliopisto, Åbo akademi, Hanken, Vaasan ammattikorkeakoulu or Helsingin yliopisto. The Sports Academy offers some joint training sessions for athletes studying at a university of applied sciences or university. Other tasks include enhancing daily training and providing and developing support services for athletes and coaches.The Sports Academy offers athletes various support services based on their classification/level. The support services are partially free of charge or subsidised by the Sports Academy

The Sports Academy is aimed for elite athletes.

Criteria for membership:
- A study place at one of the Vaasa Region Sports Academy's partner schools (Novia, Åbo Akademi, Hanken, VAMK, University of Vaasa, University of Helsinki – Faculty of Law). Adult elite athletes who are not currently studying may also apply and be accepted into the Sports Academy.
- The athlete trains with determination and structure and aims for national or international excellence in their sport.
- The athlete is among the national elite or competes at the international level within their age group, or the athlete’s membership in the Sports Academy is justified in another way – for example, by playing in one of VRIA’s representative teams in team sports.
- Sport-specific criteria and selection are done in cooperation with the national sport federations and clubs.
- The Sports Academy’s activities must add value to the athlete’s pursuit of national or international top-level performance.
- The athlete and the national sport federation must comply with the regulations of the Finnish Center for Elite Sports (FCEI).
- Athletes are accepted into the Sports Academy until further notice and may be excluded if the athletic criteria are no longer met.
